Amy Duggar from the TLC reality television show "Counting On" has done the unthinkable -- and that is speaking out against the leader of the Institute in Basic Life Principles church, Bill Gothard. The news came out after a number of women had come forward and accused the church leader of sexual harassment and physical abuse. Naturally, this comes as a shock coming from a Duggar, especially since the church in question is one that the devout family has been attending.

After the allegations were made, the Duggar family have strategically kept themselves away from Gothard -- perhaps to avoid controversy and public scrutiny, as well as to make clear that they do not support him. Amy has been the first member of the family to air out her opinions of disappointment toward the church leader on her social media  page, stating that she does not approve of Gothard's teachings, describing them to be "questionable."

Furthermore, Amy stated that "Legalism is the opposite of what my Bible teaches." Legalism is a term that is used to describe situations wherein the Law of Moses from the Old Testament is regarded higher than the teachings of the gospel. This belief is shared by the entire Duggar family clan, and was clarified by Amy in one of her social media posts.

The statements that Amy had put out are meant for the public, especially since a lot of her followers have sent her private messages regarding her opinion on Gothard and the allegations that he is now faced with. It is notable to mention that the Duggars still attend service at the Institute in Basic Life Principles church, and still take to heart the lessons and values that are found in their curriculum.

Additionally, Gothard was responsible for conducting counseling regarding Josh Duggar's allegations in the past. As of now, the Duggar family are traveling in Australia and New Zealand, and are promoting the Institute in Basic Life Principles church.
