Android 4.4.2 KitKat download for Galaxy S3 on Sprint available; Verizon update still unknown

Samsung Galaxy S3

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy S3 finally arrived for users on the Sprint network last week. Although the wait was long, users have finally begun downloading the new software over-the-air.

However, Galaxy S3 owners on the Verizon network are still waiting for the software update.

The launch of the latest Android 4.4.3. software is imminent for Google Nexus users, but Galaxy S3 owners on the Verizon carrier are still in the dark as to when they will receive their update.

But the Android 4.4.2 KitKat release to Sprint is a good indication the update will be making its way to all Samsung Galaxy S3 devices any day now.

If and when the rollout begins for other carriers, it will happen in stages, and users will have to wait until they receive a notification.

Meanwhile, the Android 4.4.2 software is available for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users, which rolled out ahead of the Galaxy S3. Check if the update is available on your device by going to Settings > More > System Update > Update Samsung Software > Check Now.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat replaces the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and will fix bugs and make some tweaks to the user interface, like white icons and transparent status bar.

The update for all Galaxy S3 Note 2 users is expected to roll out before the rumored Android 4.5 software, which will reportedly release with the Nexus 8 tablet in July.
