Android 4.4.2 KitKat update releases for Galaxy Note 3, Sony Xperia Z

Sony

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has now started making its way to owners of the international Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which was released back in fall 2013.

That will replace the current Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system that has been running on that device.

The KitKat update is over the air or through Samsung Kies, and has already rolled out to markets in Russia, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Now it's coming to the unlocked SM-N900 model with the firmware build number of N900XXUDND1.

AndroidPit has helpfully put together some instructions on how to install the update manually here

And Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware with the model number 10.5.A.0.227 has been leaked for the Sony Xperia Z, models C6602 and C6603 with LTE.

The leak came via DooMLoRD on the XDA Developers website and is for unlocked bootloaders only.

XperiaBlog notes that the update brings transparency and a new Notification/Quick settings drop-down bar as well as an update to the camera apps.   The double tap-to-wake feature is also gone.
