Samsung will not update every smartphone on its lineup with Android Lollipop.

The Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S3 will not be getting the Android Lollipop treatment. This was confirmed when Samsung Mobile UK replied via Twitter to a user who inquired about the devices' Lollipop-related future, if any. 

The aging devices won't be switching to a sweeter firmware. The Samsung Galaxy S3, which was first released with Android Ice Cream Sandwich on board, won't be moving up from Android 4.4.2 KitKat, neither will the Note 2, which only received an update that traded Android Jellybean to KitKat. 

Galaxy Note 2 users in the Gulf region won't be seeing their handsets don Android Lollipop either.

The announcement doesn't apply up to every Samsung Galaxy Note 2, however. Owners of the device who happen to live in select regions like Poland, Denmark, and Finland will still be able to make the jump to Android Lollipop. 

The only option that could provide the devices with Android Lollipop are custom ROMs. This one updates the Note 2 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop while this one takes care of having Android 5.0 Lollipop running on the S3. Users are cautioned to be careful to follow the instructions. It is recommended to get assistance from someone with the technical know-how to prevent any damage.  

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-910C) users in Russia are able bump up their device to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the latest version of the software. GSM Arena states that the update came a bit early than expected. It was previously reported that the software won't roll out until the end of the month. Nonetheless, the change of schedule is very much welcome. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings security enhancements and tweaks for the hardware.
