Sony has its attention on its last-generation devices from the beloved Z series. The Japan-based manufacturer recently rolled out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the latest iteration of Google's current mobile operating system, to a bunch of its products, namely the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and the Wi-Fi-only and LTE versions of the Xperia Tablet Z. 

Not all variations of the said devices will be updated though. Sony Xperia Z units with the model numbers C6602 and C6603 are eligible to download the software. So are the Xperia ZL units that go by C6503 and C6506 model numbers. A user's Xperia ZR has to have model number C5503 to get the update while the SGP311 and SGP312 of the Wi-Fi-only Tablet Z and the SGP321 of the LTE-capable Tablet Z can make the jump. 

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop should stabilize the Xperia devices and bring tons of bug fixes. Users will be able to notice an improved overall performance and enhanced mobile security. Successfully updating the Xperia devices in question will change the build number to 10.7.A.0.222. Unfortunately, the update doesn't come with a patch that will eliminate the notorious StageFright issue, which allows cybercriminals to remotely access the infected phone by simply sending a text message. 

Those who are still waiting for the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for their Xperia Z handsets can manually check its availability. Simply navigate to Settings - About Phone - Software updates - System updates. If the OS shows up, they can download and install it. Owners need to make sure that the device has at least  50 percent charge before pushing through with the installation. 

According to reports, Sony is already preparing for the launch of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the upcoming Android OS version from Google. Upon completing the release of the Lollipop down to its mature devices, the tech firm will reportedly jump right into putting its flagships ahead of the software race.
