Motorola has been tirelessly updating its smartphones in several regions with newer versions of Android Lollipop. Now, it's the carrier's turn to help distribute the software all over the map, with US network provider Verizon taking the prompt.

Customers with the Moto X (2014) second gen can now upgrade the phone to Android 5.1 Lollipop, thanks to the company's ongoing rollout of the build. This comes a couple of days after the carrier announced that it was already soak-testing the software for the 5.2-inch handset.

Users should have been notified of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update by now but if not, they could check the availability of the software, which is being sent out over the air (OTA), by going to the device settings and the available system updates. Waste no time when the update pops up.

According to GSM Arena, some Verizon customers have already managed to make their move to Android 5.1 Lollipop, which would bring a whole host of bug fixes and new features focused on improving the Moto X (2014) second gen's stability and security.

One of the biggest tweaks included in this build is the Factory Reset Protection, wherein users register a Google account to the device that they will use to gain access to the device. No other person will be able to use the phone unless he or she correctly inputs the login credentials. This new security feature comes in handy when the device gets lost or stolen.

With Android 5.1 Lollipop on board, users can also regulate interruptions on the Moto X 2014. They can set up an alarm for the next important interruptions and block all others. Keying in scheduled downtimes at an earlier time is now made possible too.
