Motorola Moto X 2nd GenerationMotorola

Not too long ago, the original Moto X in the U.S., Brazil, and Canada via Rogers received the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Just recently, it was joined by its successor, the second-generation Moto X (2014).

Motorola announced that the update is on its way to the smartphone over the air. It won't be rolled out in one fell swoop but it will be done in phases, which means some users will have to wait for a day or two for it to arrive.

Android 5.1 Lollipop is a sizeable update for the Moto X 2014. It brings a slew of tweaks centered on the improvements of the phone's stability and performance and brings ample changes and features that enhance the multitasking abilities and security of the one-year-old handset.

Users will get quicker access to connected and paired Bluetooth devices and available Wi-Fi connections, with both features getting their own drop-down menus on the quick settings. Moto X 2014 owners will also be able to cherry pick important notifications with the new Interruption feature.

Also included in the Android 5.1 Lollipop package is the Recent apps feature that allows split screens; and the Smart Lock feature, which pairs the handset only to trusted devices such as the user's own wearable, car or another smartphone.

Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to already head to the Moto X 2014. Those who wish to manually check its availability can go to the smartphone's Settings and updates.
