Android 5.1 Lollipop is finally coming to the second-generation Moto X. Motorola's Senior Director of Software Product Management David Schuster has announced that owners of the handset in the U.S., Brazil and Canada (through Rogers) will be able to upgrade to the newer version of the OS.

For those in the United States and Brazil, only retail versions of the device is being updated. Carrier versions of the Moto X 2014 will follow, but there isn't a specific timeframe as to when that would happen but it's expected to not take long. 

Users of the Moto X (2nd Gen) will receive a notification pop-up for a download prompt. Those who haven't yet received the notification can manually check Android 5.1 Lollipop's availability by simply navigating to Settings - About Phone - System updates. 

After installation, the Moto X 2014 will be updated to 222.21.15 and there won't be anything left to do other than enjoy the cool stuff brought about by the update, the biggest of which is the ultimate removal of the memory leak, which spawned lags, freezes and other issues.  

With Android 5.1 Lollipop, users will quickly notice the restyled icons in Quick Settings, which offers easy access to Wi-Fi connections and Bluetooth paired devices. There is also the Interruptions feature, wherein users can select which notifications will be prioritized. 

Also, the Moto X (2nd Gen) will get enhanced handset protection with the Smart Lock feature, which allows them to pair the phone only with trusted devices such as their wearable or car. Moreover, there will be improvement on stability and performance due to a new and improved Android Runtime. Battery life will be enhanced as well with a new battery saver mode.
