Nexus handsets are always the first devices to model the newest operating system created by Google. This is true with the Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is the latest build of the software released by the tech giant in November. 

T-Mobile has rolled out Android 5.1 Lollipop to the Nexus 6 just recently. The carrier is also working on bringing the update to its Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. Nexus 6 for Verizon is also shipping with Android 5.1 Lollipop while Sprint is on the move in dressing up its Nexus 6 handsets with Android 5.1 Lollipop as well. 

Owners of the Nexus 6 should be able to install the update as Google made it available to internationally. The seeding is also ongoing for the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. 

Android 5.1 Lollipop is rich with features and promises greater control on notifications. One of the best ones is device protection, which will be of great help to users who get their phones lost or stolen. What the feature does is lock the phone and keep it inaccessible until the owner's Google account is logged in. 

The update also brings support to multiple SIM cards, which some devices have. The update also allows HD calling to handsets that support it. Users can also swipe notifications up to get them off the screen but intact with the notification tray. And of course, the much-needed fixes to several annoying bugs come within Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Currently, Nexus devices are the only handsets to receive the new build and rollout is done in phases. Owners of the Android phones other than the aforementioned models will have to wait. They can always go to the settings of the device to check the availability of the update.
