Could the Android 5.1 update for the Motorola Droid Turbo be forthcoming? Could it come in the next couple of weeks?

The belief is that after a long wait, the much-awaited Android 5.1 Lollipop bump is imminent. Such is further supported by incoming reports that Motorola is doing soak tests for the said device.

Soak tests are the beta testing phase made on devices before an eventual OTA rollout is done. With the announcement, the good news is that the OTA update is bound to come out soon despite the fact a previous rumor revealed that the alleged update should have been out as early as June 10.

With the supposed release date not happening, software engineer David Schuster made some clarifications to the spreading rumor via his Google Plus account:

"Hey, I wanted to give a quick update on our progress on the DROID Turbo 5.1 lollipop upgrade since there seems to be A LOT of inaccurate information out there. We are still in the lab test cycle and things are looking good. We have not provided a launch date yet, but I will let you know as soon as the update is available."

Barring any issues, this should make the coming of the OTA update closer as ever. With the Droid Turbo still running on Android 4.4 Kitkat, a long overdue but huge hop to Android 5.1 is certainly something owners will be looking forward to.

But with reports (pertaining to other devices such as the Nexus devices and Samsung Galaxy Series) having bugs with Android 5.1, would it be not better to look forward to an Android 5.1.1 update?

For now, Android 5.1 will have to suffice despite the looming fact that bugs and issues could be coming along with it. Hopefully the soak tests would reveal those problems and that Motorola engineers can address them this early.
