Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to get Android 6.0.1 beta

Samsung's pick-up of updates for its devices running the Android platform in the past was slow. This time though, the South Korea-based company has improved in its update schedule, particularly in coming out with its own Android beta testing program.

Now, Android-run Samsung devices can get their platform updates much faster. It was reported that at least two Samsung Galaxy flagships, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, already have their planned beta versions of the latest Android 6.0.1 platform.

According to SamMobile, since Samsung first pushed for its two current flagships Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the Android beta program, the two iterations already have Android 6.0 beta versions installed and are also the first ones to receive the newer Android 6.0.1 update.

Meanwhile, Android Authority said that although the two Samsung flagships already have Android 6.0.1 lined up, the version itself is a limited one both in scope and the number of users. The only Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices that will receive the update are those currently enrolled in the Android beta testing program by Samsung and have already received the prior Android 6.0 beta version. In addition, while the update is supposed to be an automatic, over-the-air one, beta testers can still check if the Android 6.0.1 update is already available on their device by checking the Software Update option found in the Settings > About Device tabs.

The industry follower also said that while the Android 6.0.1 platform can be considered a major update, the version that Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners will download is still incomplete since this is only a beta version. However, much of the improvements and new features found on the stock and official Android 6.0.1 ROM can already be found in the beta version, such as the more expansive library for emojis, a much more streamlined notification panel, improvements in the Quick Settings option, and a more accessible quick tabs and shortcuts panel in case of the Galaxy S6 Edge.
