Observers report that users have started receiving Android 6.0.1 updates on their Galaxy S5 in South Korea. But while fans expected the global roll-out to start next month, it seems that Samsung wants to release the new platform ASAP, as some global unlocked versions of the Galaxy S5 have reportedly received OTA notifications for the updates, too.

SamMobile states that some users from Trinidad & Tobago reported receiving an over-the-air notification on their Galaxy S5 devices. Apparently, the same update for global unlocked versions will start to roll out since the download is also at 1.47 GB and, as an Android version update, considered a major patch. The same with other updates, it is advisable for the update to be done via WiFi rather than mobile data, for a more stable connection.

In addition, users can already check if the OTA update is available on their Galaxy S5 devices even without the OTA notification. A manual check can be done by refreshing the Systems Update tab on the Settings > About Phone options.

According to IBTimes, while Samsung has yet to officially announce the global roll-out of the Android M update for the Galaxy S5, fans can already expect the notification to come out sooner. The South Korea tech giant already confirmed in leaked roadmaps that the flagship will be receiving the new Android platform.

Additionally, Galaxy flagship devices like the Note 4 and Note 5 have already started receiving their Android 6.0.1 updates, so it is only a matter of weeks – if not days – for the global version of the Galaxy S5 to also get its Marshmallow update.

Most users of flagships have been waiting for some time for their devices to get updated to Android Marshmallow. Although Google released the stock ROM last year, most tech giants and mobile carriers have to build their own versions of Android platforms using Google's own stock version as base. This leads to a delay in the release of carrier- and manufacturer-specific Android updates.
