Android 6.0 beta news: Samsung's Marshmallow beta version doesn't work with Gear VR

Recently, Samsung had a surprise treat for its millions of fans –- the company put up its first-ever beta program to test out Android builds and get feedback directly from consumers. First up in the program was the new Android 6.0 version, and some Samsung users in South Korea and elsewhere have already received the beta version on their devices.

However, there seems to be a downgrade in this program. It was reported by observers that one point against the Android beta version that Samsung rolled out is that it was found to be incompatible with the Samsung Gear VR.

According to SamMobile, users who have already received the beta build of the Android 6.0 for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge observed that the virtual reality headset doesn't work with the beta firmware. However, it seems that this was only limited to the beta build itself as it was also mentioned that Gear VR support will still make it to the final build of the new Android platform. It is unclear, however, if this issue was one of the glitches found in the beta build, or if Samsung did not deliberately include Gear VR support when it launched the beta program.

The industry follower then cautioned users who want to enjoy a virtual reality experience on their Gear VR to refrain from installing the beta firmware and just wait for the final build of Android 6.0 for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Meanwhile, for those who are new to the Samsung Gear VR experience, Tech Times compiled a list of current apps and games that can be best enjoyed with the VR accessory. The list is composed of games of different genres and apps that make using Samsung devices more immersive together with the Gear VR, such as an Internet browser integrated with virtual reality features like 3D video-streaming.
