Nexus devices will get a taste of the newly introduced Android 6.0 Marshmallow as early as next week. As tradition dictates, a spanking new operating system for Google always makes its way to its own devices first, and this year's foremost recipients are the Nexus 5, 6, 7 (2013), 9 and Player.

Starting Oct. 5, as media outlets expect, users with the aforementioned devices will be able to update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, making them the first bunch in the whole Android community to enjoy the sweet features of the software.

The update will be sent out over-the-air (OTA), which means that it won't drop in one go. All the same, it shouldn't take long to arrive on the aforesaid devices. As for those waiting for the fate of their older Nexus handsets not included on the list, there's no word about a rollout yet.

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow keeping Google busy right now, there is also lack of info about when other devices can get last year's release, Lollipop. As per PC Advisor, only 21 percent of Android devices have been updated to Lollipop as of Sept. 7. It is unclear if that figure will grow soon.

Meanwhile, fans can also expect other tech firms and manufacturers to announce their rollout plans for the software. Owners of other Android devices should know soon if their smartphone or tablet is eligible for upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow will introduce Android Pay, and along with that, it will bring support for fingerprint sensors. What this means is that users can lock certain apps like 1Password with their fingerprint.

The software also takes into account devices equipped with USB Type-C ports. As far as design goes, the firmware mostly adapted Lollipop's vibrant look but it comes with a new text selection tool, as well as a vertical app drawer that can be scrolled.

Overall, Android 6.0 Marshmallow should stabilize the device, boost its performance and extend its battery life.
