Canadian carrier Telus has word that the original Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 manufactured by LG and Motorola, respectively, will be the first handsets to receive the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow, as early as Oct. 5. This is according to their software update page, which also listed other devices up for various upgrades.

The reboots of the devices, which are reportedly called Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P and are being made by LG and Huawei, are said to don the new Android operating system when they officially launch on Sept. 29. The pair of smartphones has been profusely leaked in the past months.

Telus warns that the date is not final. Nonetheless, Mobile Syrup says that if Google really is introducing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow at the end of this month, it is highly likely that rollouts of the firmware will commence around the said date. That is based on the software giant's history of releasing new operating systems to its native devices mere days before the company debuts them.

Noticeably, if a user visits the site where Telus posted the software update schedule, Nexus 5 and Nexus 5 are no longer on the list. It looks like the carrier wasn't supposed to drop the surprise yet. But with Oct. 5 just within spitting distance, Android users will know very soon.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow has a lot of features to offer. There won't be design breakthroughs to expect, but there will be tons of stabilizing features and fixes to go along with the new OS. A battery saving feature called Doze should help a device stay alive longer than it usually does.

Users will also be able to enjoy a new app drawer and newfound support for USB Type-C connectors, the newer and the reversible kind that upcoming flagships are likely going to sport.
