Android 6.0 update news: Asus to join Android M bandwagon very soon

Although it has been some months since Google released its newest Android platform, tech manufacturers still have to fully upgrade their product lineups to Android Marshmallow. The latest to announce a future update for Android 6.0 is Asus.

In an announcement on the official company forum, Asus listed down its products that will eventually be upgraded to Android Marshmallow. Topping the lineups is the ZenFone 2 series, including the base models ZE550ML and ZE551ML, the entire ZenFone 2 Laser models and the ZenFone 2 Deluxe and Deluxe Special Edition.

Aside from the ZenFone 2, Asus also included a future Androi Marshmallow update for the ZenFone Selfie, ZenFone Max, and ZenFone Zoom. Meanwhile, the only model outside of the ZenFone range included in the update is the PadFone S.

The post announced that owners of the devices included in the upgrade lineup will receive an OTA notification of the update, although they can also manually check if the firmware version is already available for download from the Settings tab.

Meanwhile, highlighting the future update, Asus also mentioned that aside from the new features that are introduced by Android 6.0, device-specific changes will also roll out to the different Asus products when the OTA update arrives. Asus stated, "Google Messenger, Calendar, and Gmail apps will automatically be included with the Android M update. These apps will replace three ZenUI apps—ASUS Messenger, ASUS Mail and ASUS Calendar—as the default apps in the Android M version of ZenUI if you restore to factory settings after the update."

But users can still re-install the replaced Asus Messenger, Asus Mail, and Asus Calendar apps by manually downloading them from the Google Play Store.

As for the other Asus lineups, Gadgets by NDTV said that Asus also plans to bring Android Marshmallow to other flagships like the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, and ZenFone 6.
