Android 6.0 update news: Soak test starts for Moto X Pure Edition

The Moto X 2015, also known as Moto X Style or Moto X Pure Edition.

It has been some time since Google released the official version of the newest Androird platform. However, many users are still waiting for Android Marshmallow to come to their devices. Unlike iOS, for which Apple controls the official release and OTA updates (outside of jailbreak versions), the Android environment is much more complex, as tech manufacturers and mobile carriers try to come out with their own Android version based on the official build.

Most tech manufacturers have already laid out their plans and schedules for an Android M roll-out. The latest rumors suggest that the new flagship of Motorola, the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition, might receive its Android 6.0 OTA update soon, even before the year ends.

According to a Google+ post by David Schuster, Motorola's senior director of software product management, a soak test for Android 6.0 has already begun for the Moto X Pure Edition in the U.S. and the company will be monitoring the progress of the program. Schuster added that they "will monitor the soak for next week and with good results, proceed to full launch."

Android Headlines mentioned that while the criterion for getting into the program was not detailed, those who were already selected for the soak test will receive OTA notifications to download the software, version 24.11.18.

Although the "next week" statement might be a general timeline and not a specific period date for the test, it might mean that when Motorola finally addresses bugs and glitches and has gathered feedback from the test, Moto X Pure Edition owners might see an Android Marshmallow OTA update before December ends.

If the Moto X Pure Edition gets its official Android M update this month, it will join other flagships reported to be switching to the newest Google mobile OS before 2015 ends. LG has already made its global tests and is currently rolling out Android M to the G4. Meanwhile, based on supposed leaked documents, the Galaxy Note 5 by Samsung will be receiving its Android 6.0 update this December.
