Since Google has already made official its newest platform Android 6.0 Marshmallow, fans and users of many Android-run phones are now asking when their handsets will receive the anticipated over-the-air-update.

According to some industry observers like RealtyToday, South Korea-based Samsung is already working on an update for its newest lineup of products, particularly its flagships like the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and the recently released Galaxy Note 5.

The update, while is still unconfirmed, is predicted to be a jump from the handset's current Lollipop version to the newer 6.0 Marshmallow platform. Although only a guess, SamMobile said that there might be some truth to the speculations, given that most of Samsung's flagships are already running on the Android 5.1.1 version, and it seems unlikely that Google will be coming out with a 5.1.2 update. Meanwhile, the website also added that according to sources, the firmware version for some handsets, like the S6 Edge, will change from a U2 to U3 designation, meaning that some of the changes from the update will involve heavy improvements on user interface features.

Meanwhile, Google has already launched two new Nexus phones that will carry the Android 6.0 Marshmallow version right out of the box. Both phones – the Nexus 5X by LG and Nexus 6P by Huawei – are expected to roll out before the year ends. In addition, Google has also confirmed that some in the Nexus lineup will get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, namely the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), and Nexus 9, starting on Oct. 5. The Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 10, meanwhile, will not receive any updates and will be using their Android KitKat systems.
