HTC One M8 Android 5.0 update: T-Mobile rolls out Lollipop; Sprint delays upgrade to Feb. 13?

Users who got their HTC One M8 unit from T-Mobile should be enjoying Android Lollipop by now. HTC Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi informed the tech community via his Twitter account that the new operating system has been approved and that over-the-air downloads for T-Mobile and HTC One M8 users should be carried out on Feb. 9.

On the other hand, Sprint initially announced the launch of Google's latest operating system to its very own HTC One M8-rocking customers on Feb. 6. However, for an unknown reason, the carrier pulled out the update from its support page, which now has Oct. 29, 2014 as its latest Android software update once again. The build landing on the handset was supposed to be version 4.20.651.10.

In addition, if one visits the HTC website, the tech firm tags the update for the HTC One M8 at the Certification stage. To fill in the gap, rumor mills churned and worked up news that the rollout has been moved to Feb. 13. This remains unfounded though. Even so, it would not hurt to check for Lollipop's availability via the settings of the handset.

Although Sprint lagged behind this one, the carrier and T-Mobile were toe to toe in rolling out the update to the Samsung Galaxy S5. Sprint even managed to bring Android Lollipop to customers who own the 2013 HTC flagship, the HTC One M7. Additionally, owners of the Google Play Edition of the aforementioned smartphone are also able to upgrade to Android Lollipop now.

As usual, Android Lollipop updates come in phases so there is no reason to get bummed out if a notification prompting the download is yet to turn up. Users can check the settings of their HTC One M8 (Settings then About phone) to check if Lollipop is ready to download. AT&T and Verizon have not determined a schedule for M8's Lollipop makeover for their customers but this should not be far off.
