Android M release update: HTC One M8 in line to get upgrade

It seems that one of the very first older-gen smartphones to get the Android M update upon launch is HTC's very own One M8 handset.

According to reports, HTC has already confirmed that the One M8 is on the list of smartphones getting the upgrade when Google launches its newest mobile platform version, the Android M. Answering a query by a Twitter follower, HTC product manager Mo Versi confirmed that the M8 will receive the OS update.

As expected, aside from the previous version of the product line, the current HTC flagships M9 and M9+ are also in line to receive the Android M upgrade.

Although the M8 still remains as one of the current flagship phones of HTC and is still a new release since it only rolled out last year, the device is considered as an older-gen smartphone in some tech circles. With the release of newer, more updated competitors in the market, not to mention HTC having come out with the M8's successors the One M9 and M9+, the device has been pushed aside as just one "previous version" of the HTC One flagship lineup. However, this doesn't mean that the M8 will be left in the dust when it comes to updates.

Along with HTC, Sony is the only manufacturer that has already confirmed the Android M rollout for its devices as soon as the update is released. Sony has already released some developer preview builds for some of its extensive Xperia lineup. When the newest platform rolls out, fans expect that Sony will be ready to update some of its more recent Xperia products at the earliest time possible.

Although unconfirmed, fans expect other big-name manufacturers to also migrate to Android M, most notable among them Samsung, with their recent Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge releases, and the reported upcoming Galaxy Note 5.
