While details have already emerged about the upcoming Android N platform, some devices have yet to receive their Android Marshmallow update. But fans of the OnePlus 2 can already cross the device out of the waiting list as it has been revealed that the current-gen phone will receive Android M as part of its OxygenOS update.

In an insider tip scored by Android Police, it was revealed that the OnePlus 2 is currently undergoing soak tests for a follow-up update to its own Android-based OxygenOS platform. The platform received an update to its 2.2.1 version earlier this month, but the patch only included minor improvements and tweaks. The recent update is not an OS one and only introduced updates on features, as well as fixes for known issues within the platform.

However, the new upcoming update will be a major one, as the current 2.2.1 version will jump to OxygenOS 3.0. Although OnePlus is sure to overlay the Android update, fusing it with the new OxygenOS version, fans may still be able to see that it will be based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In some of the screenshots that the source sent to the industry follower, it can be seen that some of the interface and features are Marshmallow-based.

The OxygenOS platform is fairly new itself, recently replacing the original Cyanogen OS-based platform that the company used for the OnePlus One.

Meanwhile, although OnePlus has yet to announce a date for the release of OxygenOS 3.0, fans can expect the new platform to roll out soon as the company is said to shift its focus to a new flagship in the coming months. OnePlus has already revealed that a new smartphone from them is coming in mid-2016. According to speculations, the new iteration, the OnePlus 3, can be expected to come out in June.
