Android Nougat 7.0 update: beta version for OnePlus 3 coming by month-end

OnePlus has already mentioned that it is hard at work on an imminent update of its flagships to Android Nougat. The first to get the supposed update is the OnePlus 3, with the version to launch later this month.

However, Engadget reports that the update for the OnePlus 3 will be a staggered release, as the first to roll out is a beta version for testing. According to Brian Yoon, head of software for the China-based tech maker, the Android update scheduled for release this month is a community build. The company executive added that even as a beta phase, the Android Nougat 7.0 update is already free of glitches and bugs. It is expected that OnePlus is only looking to check out user feedback for the Android version.

Meanwhile, as the community build is already free of bugs, it is expected that OnePlus will roll out the full version of Android Nougat 7.0 to the OnePlus 3 before the year ends. The update will then be rolled out to the OnePlus 2.

While there is no word if the update will also make it to previous-gen iterations like the OnePlus X and the OnePlus One, there are rumors that OnePlus may have found a workaround. According to Tech Times, a supposed benchmark site image shows the OnePlus One being tested with the latest Android platform onboard.

The OnePlus One runs on a Snapdragon 801 processor which is said to only support a previous version of Open GLS. A requirement for Android Nougat is that the device runs on updated Open GLS or Vulcan API to be compatible with the new platform.

OnePlus is the latest company that is scheduled to release a beta version for Android Nougat. Samsung has just recently unlocked its Galaxy Beta program for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, while Sony Mobile has also rolled out its Concept for Android beta for the Xperia X Performance.
