The official sequel to the original "Angry Birds" slingshot shooter will be rolled out sooner than what most fans think. In the official announcement by developer Rovio, "Angry Birds 2" will hit mobile game platforms on July 30.

Although there were few details on how the game will differ from the first one, the gameplay and player interface seem to be similar to the original, at least from what can be inferred from a 12-second teaser video released online.

Fans expect that it will still be a continuation of the battle between two kingdoms – the birds who are the protagonists of the series, and the green pigs who took away the main characters' precious eggs. However, some observers note that there might be new bird characters with new abilities that players can use, aside from adding new levels and other constructs. Rovio has been quoted as saying that fans can expect "Angry Birds 2" to be "bigger, badder, and birdier" than the first original title and the numerous spin-off games before it.

The original "Angry Birds" title was a hit when it was launched, racking up at least three billion downloads since it was released in 2009. The birds-and-pigs slingshot shooter shot up to the top of the game charts that there were at least 15 spin-offs and mixes made after the original title. In addition to the spin-off titles like "Angry Birds Star Wars" and "Bad Piggies," the "Angry Birds" franchise is also set to have an animated movie starring Peter Dinklage that will be released next year, as well as numerous merchandise such as LEGO sets and collectible toys.
