In the Old Testament, God sent 10 plagues to Egypt—including pests, diseases and death of the first borns—because of the Pharaoh's refusal to obey His command to free the Israelites.

Something similarly terrifying is currently happening, this time on a beach in Argentina, where millions of beetles have shown up, fuelling fears that the appearance of these insects is another sign of the coming End Times.

The creepy insects suddenly invaded the resorts of Mar de Ajo, located 31 miles away from the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires.

Seeing pictures on social media of the beach turning into a horrifying sea of black, some residents have expressed fears that the beetle invasion could mean that the Apocalypse may happen any time soon.

The UK Mirror even quoted one man as saying that the insect infestation means "the end of times is near."

"They [The beetles] can sense it," the unidentified man was quoted as saying.

Other people described the bizarre appearance of these insects as an "ominous warning of impending doom."

Some people, like one commentator who identified himself as "Khnagar," was nevertheless more rational, employing science to explain the weird phenomenon.

"It looks like Black Maize Beetle (Heteronychus Arator), which are known for having mass flights in the summer/autumn where they mate and all that. Or it's some similar type of beetle. They only live for a few days at that stage after crawling out of the ground," the commentator said.

"So a lot of beetles flew, got swept out to sea by the winds, and then came back to the beach, most of them dead or dying. Most likely scenario I can come up with," he further explained.

Be it a scientific occurrence or a sign of doom, Argentinians wasted no time making a profit out of the beetles, which local media reported were being sold for £46 per kilo or £21 per pound.
