Answered prayer: Ciara says she asked God to give her a devout Christian husband before she met Russell Wilson

Prayers do work, and singer Ciara can attest to that. Before she met her fiancé Russell Wilson, who is a quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, she asked God to give her a devout Christian husband who would love her son Future Zahir Wilburn like his own.

"I remember telling my friend the kind of guy I wanted: a God-fearing man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me," the 30-year-old singer told Essence Magazine. "I was very specific because I do believe you can have it all."

Ciara admitted that being a single mother was not part of her vision. But when she was thrust into that situation, she decided to "reorganise" her thoughts.

"I decided to trust that God had a plan for me, and move forward one day at a time," she said.

When she started going out with Wilson, the two of them decided to honour God and take an abstinence pledge. Wilson said during his guest appearance at The Rock Church in San Diego, California last July that it was not easy for them to resist temptation, but they believe that abstaining from sex before marriage will only strengthen their bond.

After that, engagement rumours between the two grew rampant. Ciara had earlier said the engagement would come in God's perfect timing.

She said she feels confident that their relationship is headed in the right direction.

"I feel very confident in the love that we have for each other, and only God knows where it's going to go," she told Page Six. "God knows everything that's to come in the future, and I think it's best to let Him keep taking control of things. Life is sweet, and I'm very thankful for all the great things happening in my life. I'm very happy."

The two got engaged just last month during their Seychelles vacation.
