Paul Rudd's Scott Lang suited up in "Captain America: Civil War" last year, marking it his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe outside the "Ant-Man" franchise. While his surprise appearance was greatly welcomed by fans, the character's involvement is not without repercussions when he returns in his own sequel, "Ant-Man and the Wasp," according to director Peyton Reed.

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Reed said that the film's epic airport battle has a great impact on Scott's relationships especially now that he starts to work with Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) in a more proactive role.

"The events of Captain America: Civil War gave us something clear, which is: what was Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne's reaction to Scott having taken this technology out into the world in Civil War?" he told the publication, as reported Comic Book. "We had a lot of fun playing around with that. And we play with size and scale a lot. I love the idea of Giant-Man," he added. 

Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who developed the "Ant-Man" suit, has kept the technology close to the chest for decades. As Screen Rant noted, even though he worked for SHIELD in the past, he refused to give the organization access to his creation. Following the events of "Civil War," the public already knows about Pym's deepest secrets.

What's more is that Tony Stark, the son of his former business rival Howard Stark, knows about it too. Although there was no indication that the billionaire is interested in the technology then, the publication notes Stark is now reassembling the Avengers. If anything, the former Ant-Man will not be too thrilled with making the Pym Particles available to people he does not trust.

Meanwhile, Pym will continue learning about the Quantum Realm. Scott managed to survive and return from that dimension in the first "Ant-Man" film, suggesting his wife, Janet Van Dyne, may still be alive out there somewhere. Whether that is the case or not remains to be seen, but that is expected to play a big part in the sequel's plot.

"She's a very important character," he explained, adding, "It's fair to say if someone were to have spent thirty something years in the Quantum Realm and survived, it would have an effect. What did she eat? All she eats is cereal called Quantum Krispies."

Fans will have to wait until late summer to know the specific details. Also starring Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath, Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" will open in theaters on July 6, 2019.
