Apple is now giving away $50 and $100 gift cards as part of its back-to-school promo.

The tech giant started offering its annual back-to-school promo in preparation for the upcoming academic year. Apple offers gift cards to consumers who will buy new Apple devices. The promo runs until September 9.

Unlike before where gift cards could only be used in the App Store, the gift cards can now can be used both in buying items at the company's online and retail stores.

The promo is meant for current college students and incoming freshmen, and teachers and staff members of all grade levels, including K-12. Buyers will get $100 gift card when they buy a new iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. While they will receive $50 if they purchase iPad Air, iPad with Retina, iPad Mini with Retina, iPad Mini, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.

Apple also offers educational discounts that slashed prices of some Apple devices from $30 on all iPads to $300 on a Mac. MacBook Airs are discounted by $50 for parents of students as well as for faculty and staff. The discounts on other products are $100 to $200 on MacBook Pros, $50 to $100 on iMacs and $200 to $300 on Mac Pros.

Unfortunately, the educational discount does not include iPhones and is available only to buyers with .edu email addresses.

If this is not enough, Apple also offers refurbished units of Apple devices. Refurbished units were defective units taken back to Apple to fix. The company replaced the back panel and battery. Thus, they are as good as brand new.

Aside from being a promotion to Apple products and a treat to incoming college students, this is also Apple's way to exhaust some stocks to make way of incoming devices. Apple is set to release new gadgets such as new iPads, iPhones and Macs in the fall.
