The iPhone 7 is said to be the last one in its family to sport an LCD display because Apple is allegedly going to use OLED screens on the future iterations of its bestselling smartphone line.

A report claims that the Cupertino-based company approached both Samsung and LG to provide the OLED screens for them. Apple is allegedly keeping its options open in terms of price negotiations, which is why it brought the two companies on board.

At the moment, LG serves as the main provider for the OLED panels but BGR has word that Samsung will soon be more involved, considering its irresistible price offerings (it is believed that Apple stuck with LCD panels because they were cheaper.

However, with no solid agreements coming out of this yet, the iPhone 7 is bound to get an LCD screen, which won't be so bad. According to Clapway, there will no longer be a home button with the company's pioneering 3D Touch technology doing all the work.

It is also being said that the Apple iPhone 7 will allegedly don an ultra-thin build. It will be ultra slim that there apparently won't be a 3.5mm headphone jack anymore. This pushes Apple to make use of Lightning technology.

The flagship is also expected to feature a USB Type-C port as well as a fingerprint scanner and a dual camera. Apple could bump up the RAM to 3 GB as well. Another exciting bit about the device is that it could be the first waterproof iPhone.

Going back to Apple's so-called plans to ditch LCDs for OLEDs, rumor has it that Apple is developing its very own screen technology in a "secret lab" in Taiwan to make the most out of the flexible displays and micro-LED technology.

There's no update about that yet and Apple is yet to corroborate the report but if there's one takeaway about this, it is Apple's desire to push the envelope for the iPhone clan. The iPhone 7 is expected to dazzle by September next year.
