In summer of 2014, Swiss watch maker Swatch confirmed that it will be releasing a wearable in the form of a smartwatch that would go head to head with the Apple Watch. Now, the latest report from financial media company Bloomberg suggests that Swatch's offering could put a dent in the progress of other tech companies who are rolling out smartwatches, too. 

Swatch's CEO Nick Hayek states that the upcoming wearable will be a device that will be connected to the Internet. Also, according to the executive, the upcoming smartwatch will be able to function "without having to be charged." Hayek has not provided details on the functionality of the gadget but the CEO's claims could mean a portent of trouble for competitors. 

Battery technology is evolving at a sluggish pace and it is one of the most overlooked features in a mobile device. Currently, majority of smartwatches that are running Google's modified Android Wear platform possess a modicum sized battery that needs to be charged on a daily basis in order to remain functional for a 24-hour period. Equally, the Apple Watch is rumored to possess terrible battery life, which, if true, will put Swatch's unnamed gadget at an advantage. 

Swatch happens to be a connoisseur when it comes to making wristwatches, thanks to decades of experience, which could spell trouble for Apple. For one, Apple is not known for its aggressive price-friendly strategy, which could place yet another advantage for Swatch. Furthermore, according to Hayek, the company's upcoming smartwatch will also feature a mobile payment service that will be compatible with both Windows and Android devices. 

The gadget is expected to launch around the same time as the Apple Watch, which is expected to happen sometime in April.
