Apple AC wall plug recall: adapters pose risk of an electric shock

Apple is now recalling some AC wall plug adapters that may deal an unwanted to electric shock to users.

Apple is voluntarily recalling the problematic wall plug adapters due to concerns that they may break and then deal a subsequent electric shock upon being touched by the owner.

The company has said that instances of owners receiving an electric shock from their broken AC wall plug adapters only take place in "very rare cases."

Thus far, an Apple spokeswoman told ABC Online that only a dozen cases of owners receiving an electric shock from their broken wall plug adapters have been tallied in the past 12 years.

Apple also indicated to ABC Online that the recall was being issued as a precautionary measure.

In a statement released on their web site, Apple has expressed that customer safety remains their utmost priority. The company also revealed that the defective adapters would be replaced with new models completely free of charge.

Apple has also revealed that the recall only applies to wall plug adapters that have been designed for use in certain regions.

Specifically, the adapters that are being used in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Korea, New Zealand, and Continental Europe are the ones being recalled.

Apple adapters issued to other places such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and Canada are not affected by the recall order.

Apple AC wall plug adapters being recalled have four, five or even zero characters located in the inner slot where it connects to the power adapter.

Affected owners can head on over to a nearby Apple Store or to the company's authorized service providers to exchange their adapters. Owners of problematic AC wall plug adapters can also get in touch with Apple Support to begin the exchange process.
