Apple fans are in for a big disappoint if the rumors are true that the company has scrapped the plans to create iPhone 6C, a smaller and more affordable device from the smartphones line.

Business Insider reports that the news came after an analyst from Cowen and Company, Timothy Arcuri, claimed that the 4-inch iPhone 6 suddenly disappeared in Apple's supply chain. According to him, he had seen evidences of it from January to March.

Arcuri speculates on why Apple has aborted the project, saying it may be due to a fear of "cannibalization."

The analyst stated, "I think one of the reasons is because the iPhone 6 has sold so well, and they said, 'Look, why would we want to cannibalize? If we came out with an iPhone 6C, we would essentially cannibalize a price-reduced iPhone 6.'"

iPhone 6C was supposed to pack the same hardware specifications as the iPhone 6, but at a lower price. According to the analyst, it would "look and feel" like the smartphone, but it would come with a 4-inch screen. This would supposedly cater to consumers who do not want to pay as much when buying other flagship models.

News that Apple is planning to create a smaller iPhone has already surfaced late June, weeks before Arcuri's claim. An analyst at Jefferies revealed that the American multinational technology company could be designing a low-budget metal iPhone with a smaller screen. As for the phone's specifications, the report did not indicate whether it would have the same design and components as the iPhone 6.
