Apple Watch 2 news: Original Apple Watch on discount, next-gen smartwatch getting cell-network connectivity?

The Apple Watch is on big discount.Apple

Apple has slashed $50 from the price of the Apple Watch, which, according to the findings of Slice Intelligence (obtained by Apple Insider), paved the way to a surge in sales (up to 250 percent) of the Cupertino-based company's first wearable offering.

But for the ultimate promo, users who want to get themselves an Apple Watch can turn to Best Buy, which offers a much bigger price markdown at $200, allowing users to take home the Apple Watch with the Milanese Loop for only $449 for the 38mm model and $449 for the 42mm variant.

According to reports, the discounts on the Apple Watch could be the foreshadowing of the arrival of its successor, being dubbed on the web as the Apple Watch 2. Apple is at the moment hard at work in putting together this highly-anticipated upgrade and if rumors are to be believed, Apple is taking its smartwatch to the next level.

Wall Street Journal reports that as part of an upgrade on the Apple Watch 2, Apple is adding cellular-network connectivity on the device. For overall performance, the tech giant will equip it with a faster processor.

With the latter realized, users can definitely expect greater experience in using the Apple Watch 2, especially those with gripes about the faulty functionality and unimposing speed of the first-generation smartwatch.

Cell-network connectivity, on the other hand, will at best have the Apple Watch 2 no longer dependent on a tethered smartphone. This means that users can perform tasks faster as it won't need to connect to an iPhone when it sends and receives data outside of a Wi-Fi connection.

Either the Apple Watch 2 might diminish, if not eliminate, the need of connecting to an iPhone, making it more convenient for users. That being said, users can even leave their smartphones at home and still enjoy full functionality on their wrist.
