It seems that the Apple Watch 2 will not sport cellular connectivity, but is said to feature a GPS functionality that will work perfectly for the fitness enthusiast.

Smartwatch aficionados are highly speculating that the Apple Watch 2 will be less dependent on the iPhone because it was rumored earlier to be connecting on its own with cellular networks. Users will then be able to leave their iPhones behind and just bring their new watch along, which will be able to receive text messages, possibly a support for calls as well.

However, WCCFTech reported that the company might have stumbled upon a roadblock that hinders the feature to be incorporated that could possibly connected with its battery.

The publication said that the Galaxy Gear S2 3G variant that comes with a 300 mAh battery does not last day a with its cellular feature enabled. Thus, Apple is believed to be making the necessary changes that will either extend the battery life or create an additional space for its battery, or both.

Apple Watch 2 is rumored to be manufactured by TSMC and is using the 16nm FinFET architecture. This will consume less power and give it a higher processing speed. One Glass Solution is also said to be incorporated into the design to create space. The first Apple Watch used the 28nm manufacturing process by Samsung, as well as the Glass on Glass solution on its screen.

Meanwhile, BGR added that the Cupertino-based tech giant is also said to be incorporating a GPS feature on its next smartwatch, which will greatly benefit fitness activities that need tracking and navigation. The company already announced during the WWDC 2016 that health-related apps will soon be available on its wearables, and this may be one of them.

The Apple Watch 2 is expected to be unveiled on Sept. 7 together with the iPhone 7. With regards to the price, the material used to make the watch casing and strap will still dictate it, and materials like titanium, tungsten, platinum and palladium are also rumored to be introduced to the lineup.
