Apple is keeping fans of the Apple Watch on tenterhooks after overlooking the next edition of the gadget at the 2016 Worldwide Developers Conference last week.

With no announcement on an Apple Watch 2, the successor to the popular smartwatch that hit the market over a year ago, tech followers are wondering when it will make its debut. 

We can definitely rule out June, which had been speculated prior to the WWDC.  Now with that date a definite no, and July and August highly unlikely, it is possible Apple will go for a fall release.

The next major event from Apple is set to take place in September so it's possible the tech giant will debut it then.  

And what of the device?  Apple has been tightlipped on what a second iteration of the Apple Watch might look like.  

Analyst Brian White of Wall Street's Drexel Hamilton, thinks it will be much lighter and as much as 40 percent thinner.

Another analyst and tipster, Ming Chi-Kuo, reckons there will be little change in terms of the design. If he's right, then the improvements will all be on the inside, with most likely the gadget getting a much better processor and operating system. 

One likelihood is that the smartwatch will come with the new OS update, the watchOS 3, that was unveiled at the 2016 WWDC.  

Other rumors point to the device running independently of an iPhone and changes to the camera.

It's possible it Apple may pack in a FaceTime camera.  A patent on Patently Apple suggests the addition of a HD camera to the watch's front bezel.  

Digitimes speculates that the Apple Watch 2 will put a bigger dent in people's wallets as from 2017 onwards, Apple is apparently set to swap OLED screens for the Micro-LED panel.

With no official confirmation or even teasers from Apple, we can only guess for now what it will really be like and what the final price tag will be.
