Apple Watch sells near one million units in a single day; outpaces Google's Android Wear products

Even though Apple Watch's official release date is April 24, 2015, the wearable was able to accumulate a 'near one million' sales tally in a small time span of 24 hours. It appears that the negative reviews of the wearable had little effect on consumers, who made sure that the Cupertino tech giant Apple was able to replicate the same success that it had done with its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sales performance.

According to Information Slice, the total number of Apple Watch units sold in a 24 hour period were 957,000 units. In comparison, products that were sporting Google's Android Wear operating system were unable to garner the same success as Apple Watch as the report states that a total sales tally of 720,000 units were recorded during a six month period of 2014.

Apple Watch Sport happened to be the most popular wearable in the entire catalogue, more specifically the 38 mm one, seeing as how it is the base model that carries a price tag of $349. The aforementioned product accounted for 62 percent of customers purchasing that particular model with a particular band. The report also states that the 42 mm variant, which carries a price tag of $399 accounted for 71 percent of Apple's total sales. The report includes all models.

Space Gray color was the most popular color scheme for Apple Watch customers coupled with a $49 Black Sport Band. The white band was the second most popular smartwatch band. The $149 Milanese Loop was the least popular out of the whole lot. With the success that Apple has been able to gather with its very first wearable, Google and its developers will be looking to re-evaluate the feature and functionality side of Android Wear.

Currently, owning a smartwatch might present boatload of advantages, but its short battery life happens to be one of the reasons why consumers are discouraged from purchasing it.
