Apple watchOS 4.2.2 update improve performance on series 0 devices

The Apple Watch Series 3Apple/Watch

Apple has released a fresh batch of software updates for their different devices and one of them is watchOS 4.2.2 for the Apple Watch line of products. While the official changelog does not say much, user reports have come in that this latest version may have actually improved performance on older generation Apple Watches.

Reports such as that by 9 to 5 Mac state that watchOS 4.2.2 brings improvements and fixes to bugs, but do not go into much further detail which, of course, is to be expected given that 4.2.2 is a very minor update and should not change things too drastically.

However, user feedback seems to imply that this latest update has actually made older Apple Watch devices run better and smoother. Redditor Chanks commented on how 4.2.2 is, "the best version of watchOS that I've installed on my S0." S0 here stands for the Series 0 models or the very first iteration of the Apple Watch product line.

When asked to elaborate on why it is so good, the user replied that the UI is more responsive, and the framerate is, overall, much better.

There were others that shared the same sentiment with many other users reporting that their S0 watches were performing better than before. User zoobyshoe  even goes as far as to say it "feels like a brand new watch."

While it is uncertain if this is just an anecdotal one-off kind of thing or this applies to all Series 0 devices, users who own the original model might be pleasantly surprised to see an improved performance with the latest update.

To update an Apple Watch to the latest version, users simply need to access the official Apple Watch application on their iPhone devices while the watch is charging. From there, just tap the My Watch tab and go to General then to Software Update. Here users can begin downloading the latest version and will just have to wait for the download to complete.
