'Aquaman' release date, plot rumors: More reactions call it 'fantastic;' trailer to debut at WonderCon?

Jason Momoa as Aquaman in "Justice League."DC

More "Aquaman" reactions have surfaced this week, supporting earlier ones that pointed to James Wan's film potentially becoming the next critically successful DC film after "Wonder Woman."

Collider Movie Talk host John Rocha recently shared he talked to DC comics scribe Marc Andreyko who said that "Aquaman" is getting positive reception behind the scenes. Apparently, the Jason Momoa-starring pic is nothing less than "fantastic."

"I was talking to Marc Andreyko last week, this time last week," Rocha said. "And he said 'I'm hearing rumblings that it's a fantastic film.' So he, through his connections at DC, has access to people who have seen it and have said the same thing."

This comes after it was reported last week that the test screening of the film gained praises for its solid action and emotional core. "Aquaman" is apparently similar to "Wonder Woman" in terms of tone but with a mix of horror elements, this being Wan's movie. The director, for those who are not familiar, is best known for directing horror flicks like "The Conjuring," "Insidious," and "Saw," among others.

Of course, these initial reactions do not guarantee its critical success. As CBR noted, "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Suicide Squad," and "Justice League" all had good receptions at their test screenings only to rake in bad reviews upon release.

Hopefully, the public reaction will remain just as positive as these early reports when the first "Aquaman" trailer arrives. Rumor has it the footage will arrive next month as part of Warner Bros.' programming at WonderCon. The official schedule has yet to be announced but the convention will take place from March 23 to March 25.

As for "Aquaman," it is set for release on Dec. 21. Momoa will star as the titular hero alongside Amber Heard (Mera) Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus), Patrick Wilson (Ocean Master), Willem Defoe (Nuidis Vulko), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), Temeura Morrison (Thomas Curry), Michael Beach (Jesse Kane), and Ludi Lin (Murk).
