The Arizona Cardinals are looking to lock up running back Chris Johnson for more than a season, with contract extension for the veteran reportedly being discussed.

According to ESPN, the possible extension deal for Johnson is not "imminent."

Last August, following his release from the New York Jets after just one season, Johnson became a free agent and was signed by the Cardinals to one-year contract worth $2 million.

The 30-year-old is having a great attempt of reviving his career after having thoughts of retirement, following his involvement in a drive-by shooting last March in which his shoulder was hit.

In eight games played this season, Johnson is close to surpassing the numbers he had in the 2014 season as he already has 141 carries for 676 yards and three touchdowns.

Last season with the Jets, the three-time Pro Bowler played in all 16 of the team's regular season games but struggled having 155 carries for 663 yards and a career-low one touchdown.

Johnson's rushing game is huge for Arizona's success this season, with the team only suffering two defeats so far.

This 2015, the Cardinals only suffered losses against the St. Louis Rams (Week 4) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 6).

Currently, they are riding a two-game winning streak and in their recent 34–20 win over the Cleveland Browns, Johnson again had a standout performance.

Despite not scoring a touchdown, Johnson led the Cardinals' rushing, having 30 carries for 109 yards.

The Cardinals will be having their bye week this week. They will then resume action on the road on Nov. 15 taking on the Seattle Seahawks for their Week 10 matchup before they head home in Week 11.

However, it will not be easier for them once they play at their home field on Nov. 22 as they will be facing the Cincinnati Bengals who are currently one of the teams undefeated this season.
