With head coach Bruce Arians unhappy with the team's current running back situation, the Arizona Cardinals made an offer to running back Chris Johnson who has struggled last season playing his worst football so far.

The Cardinals presented to Johnson a one-year deal despite his performance in the 2014 season with the New York Jets, who declined to exercise the 2015 option in his contract, making him a free agent.

Johnson was one of the best running backs in the National Football League (NFL) since entering the league as the 24th overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2008.

The Titans released him on April 4, 2014 and was signed by the Jets 12 days after to a two-year deal which was worth $8 million anually.

Unfortunately, the 29-year-old  football player was unable to perform well for New York, tallying career-lows with 155 carries, 663 rushing yards, and only one rushing touchdown.

The 2014 season was the first time in Johnson's career that he did not rush for more than 1,000 yards.

Along with his struggles on the field, Johnson also faced troubles off it as he was arrested last January for weapon possession, although officers decided not to continue with the charges, and was shot in the shoulder in a drive-by last March.

Despite all the issues Johnson faced, Arians and the Cardinals are still convinced that he will be able to help them with their running back woes this offseason.

Cardinals running backs Andre Ellington, Marion Grice, and rookie David Johnson already missed significant time this offseason because of hamstring injuries.

Arians said he is "not pleased" with the time Ellington and Johnson missed in training camp.

According to NFL.com, the Cardinals head coach added that he will not be playing Johnson early next season if he misses training camp because of his hamstring issues.

ESPN reported that Ellington already came to practice Monday after missing one week.
