'Arrow' season 3 spoilers: 'Superman Returns' star Brandon Routh joins cast as Ray Palmer, production starts

"Superman Returns" star Brandon Routh will have a recurring role in the new season of "Arrow," the CW action series.

"The Flash" already debuted, which was a spin-off of Arrow. Now, there's another superhero in the list and it's The Atom. Routh will play Ray Palmer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

If you're not familiar with The Atom, Ray Palmer is a scientist and an inventor and he will add spice to Oliver Queen and Felicity's lives. Ray Palmer will be a new Queen consolidated owner, but his ulterior motive is still unknown—it has something to do with the Applied Sciences division.

The Atom is named for his ability to shrink down to the size of an atom. Also, The Atom has flight abilities. DC Comics has featured The Atom numerous times. He is a member of "Justice League," "Teen Titans," "Suicide Squad" and "Indigo Tribe," according to IBT. However, this will be the first time The Atom will appear in a live-action series, so that will be something to look forward to.

Apart from his own goals, Ray Palmer is speculated to be Felicity's new love interest. Routh joins John Barrowman, Devon Aoki and Peter Stormare in the list of the new cast members that will join "Arrow" season 3.

Meanwhile, TV Line has some new updates for the upcoming season too. Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim tweeted about the title of the first episode in season 3, which is The Calm. He shared a photo and captioned it "One day to go before the start of production on Arrow Season 3..." - That means our favorite CW show is already under way.

"Arrow" Season 3 returns to CW on October 8.
