'Arrow' season 4 spoilers: John Diggle could suit up and don a mask

Arrow - John Diggle CW

"Arrow" ended on a bittersweet note as Felicity and Oliver left the city to live a more quiet life but that doesn't mean the story is over. The CW network has renewed the show for a fourth season and actor David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle, hints that his character may finally suit up and don a mask.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Ramsey explained that the reason Diggle never really suited up was because he represented the "everyday man" in the series. All of the other characters, save for Felicity, eventually became superheroes but Diggle was the only man without a costume and he fought using nothing but his withs and gun.

However, the season 3 finale hinted that things could change. Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) gave Diggle the advice of donning a suit and mask if he has plans of continuing his crime-fighting career, and it is possible that Diggle might be up for it when season 4 comes around. Now that he has a wife and child, protecting his identity will become a priority.

The actor also stated that there are future plans for his character. Fans have speculated he might become the show's version of The Guardian or Vigilante. Ramsey noted that the showrunners are working on something for future installments of "Arrow," giving fans some hope that he might become one of the aforementioned comic book characters.

Since John Diggle has also become an official character in the comic books — the character was an original creation for the TV series but has now been taken into the comic book canon as a member of the Green Arrow's allies — some speculate that he may become the Green Lantern. Ramsey immedialtely shot the rumors down.

"Everyone wants to talk about John Stewart," Ramsey told the site. "Is it "John Stewart Diggle" or "John Diggle Stewart" or whatever, and will he be Green Lantern? There's gonna be — obviously, [executive producer] Marc Guggenheim has said publicly that it's not the way to go right now. But people are still talking about it."

In the comic books, Hal Jordan a.k.a. Green Lantern momentarily retires and gives his magic ring to John Stewart.
