Following the huge leak of information from adultery site Ashley Madison, scammers, most particularly in South Australia, have upped their game by taking advantage of the leaked details and using them to blackmail people.

According to a Tuesday report from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), South Australian's notorious swindlers are sending emails threatening to expose Ashley Madison accountholders if they won't pay up with the site's currency, the Bitcoin.

Authorities have already received several complaints from the previous week stating that blackmail messages are being emailed not only to those who were registered in the dating site but also to non-accountholders, according to senior sergeant Barry Blundell.

The swindlers are in no way connected to the people responsible for the hack attack. One of their email messages stated that they would release details of the recipient's sexual fantasies if the latter refuses to pay up.

Blundell said that these scammers are taking advantage of the fact that some people just might be afraid and would give in to their demands.

Authorities are advising the public to be vigilant enough to spot a fake letter, caller, or email.

In another Ashley Madison update, "Mr. Robot" series creator Sam Esmail has been exposed as one of the many people who have registered with Ashley Madison.

However, Esmail wasn't there to engage in extramarital affairs, but to do his research for the series.

"I swear I didn't do anything," the series creator said last Wednesday at the Paleyfest panel for "Mr. Robot," according to Vulture.

Esmail went on to explain that it was all part of the show's pilot and even revealed that he registered with different online dating sites.

"Mr. Robot's" storylines featured characters visiting and registering with several online dating sites. When the Ashley Madison hack happened, it was perfect timing for the series as the incident made the show more convincing.
