The second sneak peek of the "Assassin's Creed" movie teased how the past will affect the life of Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender).

In the 2-minute, 47-second video released by 20th Century Fox, fans of the popular action-adventure video game franchise were given a glimpse of the historical elements that they all came to love. But it also offered a contemporary approach when it featured the beginning of Lynch's journey as he relives the memories of his ancestor using the ultra-modern facilities of the Abstergo Foundation.

But based on the trailer, the plot of the upcoming movie adaptation of "Assassin's Creed" might primarily focus on the present day. This means that the historical aspect of the popular video game will be pushed to the sidelines. This will deviate from the plot of the video game which is known for covering historical period pieces.

VG247 posted the official synopsis of the movie from 20th Century Fox, and it reads: "Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day."

Aside from Fassbender, the cast of the upcoming movie includes Marion Cotillard as Sophia Rikkin, the head scientist of the Abstergo Foundation; Jeremy Irons as Sophia's father and Abstergo Industries CEO Alan Rikkin; Brendan Gleeson as Lynch's father; Michael K. Williams as the Haitian Assassin named Baptiste and his descendant, Moussa; and Ariane Labed as the 15th century Spanish Inquisitor assassin named Maria.

Fassbender also served as one of the film's producers, while Cannes Film Festival nominee Justin Kurzel was tapped to direct the movie.

The "Assassin's Creed" film will be released in theaters on Dec. 21.
