Hackers and pirates have finally had their way and have managed to "crack" "Assassin's Creed: Origins," rendering most of the game completely free for everyone to download.

The deed did not come as an easy task for the illegal group(s) though, as it took them more than three months to crack the game's anti-piracy and anti-tamper security. By that time, the developers and publisher of the game may have already made enough initial revenue for the game to break even or surpass the production and marketing costs.

The illegal breakthrough was achieved by Italian hacking group CPY, which has announced that the vigilantly protected "Assassin's Creed: Origins" has been cracked, with its dual digital rights management (DRM) security software being bypassed. The announcement was made via the subreddit of Crackwatch — a website with the sole purpose of keeping tabs on which games have and have not been cracked yet.

On the said subreddit thread, it can be seen that players have been waiting for the crack for over three months since the game's initial release. Some were even showing signs of unease at the time it is taking to crack the game. The crack being delayed was due to the multiple layers of protection utilized by the game, namely Denuvo 4.8, VMProtect and Ubisoft's Uplay security.

Apparently, the said layers of digital rights management (DRM) and security for the game were quite a drain on hardware resources to the point in which most PCs were supposedly taxed excessively performance-wise. This turned off a lot of players since it may not have been the game itself causing the performance toll but the excessive security, which has been cracked already.

Ubisoft denied the accusations that their DRM layers for the game led to excessive processing of power usage; nevertheless, the game has still sold quite well despite this and has gained a lot of critical acclaim as one of the best "Assassin's Creed" game titles yet.
