Back in May, ASUS announced a Ryzen 7 powered gaming laptop for the second half of 2017. The ROG Strix GL702ZC was greeted with anticipation since AMD has not presented much of a competition in the world of mobile gaming. Now, ASUS has begun shipping the model and has revealed details with regards to the specifications of the laptop.

The ROG Strix GL702ZC is a 17.3 inch desktop replacement machine powered by AMD's eight-core Ryzen 7 1700 processor. The model comes with a launch price tag of $1499, which is considerably low for a powerful gaming laptop. It relies on numerous desktop-class components paired with an inexpensive FHD display panel.

Housing many of the latest technology from ASUS, the ROG Strix GL702ZC can be considered as the company's flagship mobile gaming platform. It is also the first all-AMD gaming laptop produced in a long time after gaming laptop manufacturers avoided AMD's FX-series CPU as well as AMD APUs due to power consumption and performance concerns.

The ROG Strix GL702ZC uses the AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU with 4 GB of memory, which ASUS has not disclosed much information about, but AnadTech is investigating the specifications of the part. The GL702ZC's graphics processor supports FreeSync dynamic refresh rate technology from AMD for both internal and external displays; ASUS offers the model with either 120 Hz or 60 Hz FHD IPS panel displays. Additionally, it will utilize the Hyper Cool Duo-Copper cooling system from ASUS which will supposedly cool the CPU and the GPU independently with two fans and heat pipes.

Internally, the GL702ZC-WB74 model which ASUS introduced recently comes with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SATA SSD along with a 1TB hard drive. Advanced configurations may expand DRAM to 32 GB, upgrade SSD to 512 GB, and install a 7200 RPM HHD or a 1 TB SSHD.

The ROG Strix GL702ZC comes with three USB 3.0 Type-A connectors, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C header, a GbE port, an 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 module, an SD card reader, an mDP 1.4 port, and HD webcam, and HDMI output, a TRRS jack, and several others for its input/output capabilities.
