Asus Zenfone 2 is getting a successor soon in the form of the highly anticipated Asus Zenfone 3. However, a new report suggests that the new iteration of the handset will not arrive in January as expected (its predecessor was launched January this year) but by May or June next year.

The device will apparently be behind schedule because it will be the first smartphone by Asus to sport a fingerprint scanner. As GSM Arena points out, it isn't hard to imagine that by the time the device has been released, the use of fingerprint scanning technology is common.

As per Digitimes, the share of smartphones sporting fingerprint scanners will increase from today's 30 percent to 50 percent. This is because these components are said to be much less expensive in the future, for only $5 a unit. The price drop could also be the reason Asus Zenfone 3 is getting the feature and it is definitely worth the wait.

Asus is also reportedly going big in 2016. Having been able to ship 20 million devices this year, the Taiwan-based company is shooting for a whopping 10 million increase for next year. To do so, the company is expanding its market reach. This year, it established a pretty solid standing in markets such as Taiwan, India, Brazil, Russia and Southeast Asia.

There are no specific details yet about the specs of the Asus Zenfone 3. The handset before it had various editions and a fairly set of specifications. But the 5.5-inch Asus Zenfone 2 could certainly use a boost on the camera department. It had a 13-MP rear shooter and a 5-MP selfie camera.

The device is expected to get a USB Type-C port as well. It also would not hurt seeing Asus bump up the battery unit, increase the screen resolution to Quad HD and pre-install Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is very likely to happen considering its purported release schedule.
