'Attack On Titan 2' release date set for August 2015 - report

Rumors claiming the July 2014 release of "Attack on Titan" (Shingeki no Kyojin) Season 2 have been refuted by Wit Studios. According to iDigital Times, the studio has yet to begin working on this highly anticipated season.

Sources state that the season 2 release will be roughly in August 2015. These reports are supported by JapNation AniManga.

Although this news reportedly devastated avid fans of the series, the studio explained that filming is dependent on the unfolding and evolving of the beloved manga originally created by Hajime Isayama.

"The manga comic the anime is based on is still ongoing, and all of us on the staff are following and loving it," Joji Wada of Wit Studios head shared.

"Eventually, we definitely want to do a sequel. This year, though, we've got our hands full producing an anime that will be bundled in a limited edition of the Attack on Titan manga, which tells a different sort of story than what we did in the TV series," he further explained.

In addition, iDigitalTimes provided devastated fans with an explanation for the delay.

"Even after just one series, the show has covered a pretty substantial portion of the manga-a little more than half of it, in fact. The key words there are 'a little more.' It stands to reason that the second series will cover just about as much ground as the first series. And that means, if it came out right now, the anime would pass the material in the books," the site clarified.

Japanese actor and singer, Haruma Miura, was selected to play the lead role in the Japanese release of the film.

The movie will be directed by renowned storyboard artist Shinji Higuchi and be distributed by Japanese film production company Toho.
