'Attack on Titan' new movie poster shows gigantic monster

Last month, fans got their first look into the upcoming live-action movie version of "Attack on Titan" when the cast was shown wearing the iconic Scout Corps costumes. This time, a gruesome image of the kind of monsters that they have to face has been revealed, as a Titan is the focus of the new poster.

Based on the poster that was unveiled by the Anime News Network on Saturday, the legendary gargantuan Titan looks bigger than expected. The poster shows Eren Yeager, portrayed by Haruma Miura, facing a gigantic antagonist, which appears to be at least 400 feet tall.

The upcoming two-part movie is based on Hajime Isayama's hugely-popular anime series of the same title, which revolves around Eren's quest to defeat the flesh-eating, ruthless Titans that roam around the world. He ventures on this quest with the help of his adopted sister Mikasa (Kiko Mizuhara) and his long-time friend Armin (Kanata Hongo).

Isayama's original anime series, which is also adapted into manga, showcases the battle between humans and the giants. It became widely popular since its release on September 2009. It has 15 volumes as of this month. The anime and its manga spin-off also have a wide following in the U.S. after Kodansha Comics USA brought the series in North America.

Meanwhile, the live-action movie adaptation of "Attack of Titan" was first discussed back in October 2011. But on December 2012, Tetsuya Nakashima reportedly resigned from his post as the director of the film due to alleged creative differences with the writing pool. In December 2013, the studio announced that Shinji Higuchi will replace Nakashima as the film's director, while Yusuke Watanabe and Tomohiro Machiyama will be the ones who will write the script together with the series creator Isayama.

Other actors who will play roles in the upcoming "Attack on Titan" films include Hiroki Hasegawa as Shikishima, Takahiro Miura as Jean, Nanami Sakuraba as Sasha, Satoru Matsuo as Sannagi, Pierre Taki as Souda, Satomi Ishihara as Hans, Jun Kunimura as Kubal, Shy Watanabe as Fukushi, Rina Takeda as Lil, as well as Ayame Misaki as Hiana.

The first part of the "Attack on Titan" live-action movie will be released in August 2015, while its second part will be out in theaters in September.
