"Attack on Titan" season 2 was initially scheduled to premiere this year, as a previous report showcases that Wit Studio has included the season in their line-up of shows for the year. However, as stated in a report from Crunchyroll, this will no longer be the case as the anime is being delayed to 2017.

The report states that the information was listed by Spanish distributor SelectaVision. According to the distributor, "Attack on Titan" season 2 was more likely going to premiere by January next year. This was later confirmed by Kodansha, the original manga's publisher, in an interview with Mision Tokyo

However, it is unconfirmed at this point if this is solely for the Spanish release of the anime or if this will be for the international market. Fans speculate that the January release pertains to the Japanese launch of the season.

Delays were already being brought about by the studio's decision to prioritize "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress" over "Attack on Titan" and it is likely that the studio is also waiting for the manga to produce more chapters to ensure the anime does not catch up and be forced to diverge from the manga's story or create filler arcs.

No specific release date has yet been announced but fans speculate that season 2 may premiere as early as the second or third week of January, just a few months following the launch of the new "Attack on Titan" video game and the new OVA.

"Attack on Titan" season 2 will focus primarily on the Reiss royal family and the revelation that they too can transform into the colossal Titans. Eren and the others will start a revolution against the royal family and their new forms of Titans, while also dealing with the Titans inside the walls and discovering how the Titans came to be in the first place.
