Previously rumored to be launching later this year, new speculations suggest that the second season of "Attack on Titan" has been indefinitely suspended, and that the show will continue sometime next year instead.

According to Hall of Fame magazine, Spanish distributor SelectaVision has confirmed that that the previous release date of 2016 for "Attack on Titan" season 2 will not be met. Instead, the licensor has revealed that when they tried to get the rights to the new show in advance for its targeted fall 2016 premiere, they were told that the broadcast date has been moved to 2017 instead. This coincides with a previous statement from director Tetsuro Araki, who said that the new season may possibly come out in 2017.

While rumors say that that "Attack on Titan" season 2 may come out as early as January 2017, the release period has not been set in stone yet. For one, observers say that the anime adaptation stays true to the original manga story as much as it can. However, with the way that recent releases of the original "Shingeki no Kyojin" manga slowing down to a trickle, there is not enough material to polish into a second season for the anime show. In addition, it is said that season 1 director Tetsuro Arak is currently tied up with other projects, most notably "Kotetsujou no Kabaneri" or "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress."

The original "Shingeki no Kyojin" manga premiered in 2009, penned by Hajime Ishima, and is currently on its 19th volume. Fans expect season 2 of the "Attack on Titan" adaptation to stay as close as possible to the ongoing story, which apparently reveals the identities of the Armored Titan and the Colossal Titan. In addition, story arcs for season 2 may possibly introduce new antagonists like the Dancing Titan, and feature the inevitable clash between the Survey Corps and the Beast Titan.
